Movement as Metaphor 2008
Project description
I have a fascination with creating immersive environments, to encourage the viewer to consider the ways in which technological mediums can manipulate the way we see and feel.
This collaboration came about as a result of a two week Residency at CarriageWorks entitled Underbelly:Public Arts Lab which encouraged interdisciplinary play. The intention was for Talia Linz (wrter & performer), Eva Mueller (performer & video/sound artist) and myself (new media & electronic artist) to create a space that exposed the breakdown of the public/private divide. Using text as fragmented narrative, we created intimacy, warmth and a sense of history and place within the cold, large scale industrial space that is CarriageWorks.
Movement as Metaphor utilised interactive hard and software (infra red sensors, arduino circuit boards, quartz composer patches) to enhance the interactive component of the space, drawing attention to the user’s body and the way their physicality shapes their experience in a space/place.
