Time Slice 2008
Project description
This Interactive Video Installation pays homage to a significant site of learning: a Confucius School from the 1600s (in Chuncheon, Korea). The hanging screens represent multiple experiences of this city - different moments from past to present. The live, interactive video component amplifies the NOW, breathing life back into a space that although existing in the present, still remains in the past.
The sound was generated through the collaborative effort of Young-Ah Noh (Aerial Artist and physical theatre, Korea) and Matthias Erian (Sound Designer, Austria), Young-Ah moved through the space interacting with rickety doors and other structural components of the site and the hanging screen installation, simultaneously, Matthias did a live mix. I used live video of Young-Ah and the audience's movement through the space as well as prerecorded footage filmed during my time in Chuncheon to create the moving images (unfortunately the documentation is limited).
Time Slice, is a pulsing, live environment incorporating movement, live and pre-recorded sound manipulation as well as pre-recorded and live interactive video projection. Our intention was to ‘move space’ from present to past and back again.
This project was made as a result of a 2 week inter-disciplinary residency in Korea - as part of the Moving Space Project - funded by Korea Arts Council.
