This piece was made for TRANSIT LOUNGE 09 - part of TRANSMEDIALE: Digital Culture Festival, Berlin.
Moving While Standing Still consisted of three online conversations between remotely distanced participants (located in Sydney, Melbourne, Paris and Berlin), with exchanges developing into three collaborative projects.
This component took place online over a 2 month period. The collaborating artists were Muse Me (Berlin), Nick Mariette (Paris) and myself (Sydney).
Conversation Two: Lounge & Destination, investigates the premise that if in the future, long distance physical transit becomes frozen, we will be left with the Internet as both transit lounge and destination.
Conversation Two explores the place and non-place, inside and outside, the myriad of digital portals through to the physical others we long to visit. Our installation materialises the inevitable disjoint in travel - physical or digital; tensions between longings for elsewhere and the pleasure of the immediate.
