Project description

Hair, like language and menstruation, instead of consolidating humanity, accentuates difference. Crew cuts, dreadlocks, skinheads, cornrows, can announce gender as well as political or spiritual allegiances. Hair texture and colour can be associated with race ethnicity and age. Some cultures believe that human vitality and life force are located in hair. In others, it is cosmetic when it is on the head and refuse when it is not. Such divergent responses to hair are integral to this work.
